WHAT IS THE CHATHAM COUNTY DIGITAL INCLUSION PLAN?

INTRODUCTION

The draft Chatham County Digital Inclusion Plan is a comprehensive strategy designed to bridge the digital divide and ensure all residents have the resources needed to succeed in our digital world. Through numerous meetings and brainstorming sessions, the Chatham County Digital Plan Coalition has identified key challenges and developed practical solutions, highlighting the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to achieve a better digital future for Chatham County. Digital inclusion extends beyond just having broadband; it includes fair access to digital technology and the adoption of digital infrastructure, aiming to ensure that every community member can fully participate in our economy, society, and democracy.

MISSION

Ensure that all residents have access to digital technology and the necessary skills to participate fully in the digital world. We aim to close the digital divide and promote equitable access to broadband by working to increase its availability, accessibility, and adoption. We are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable digital future for all residents of Chatham County.

WHAT IS DIGITAL INCLUSION?

The Chatham County Digital Inclusion Plan Coalition views digital inclusion as the idea that all residents should have the necessary information, infrastructure, accessibility, knowledge, and skills to navigate digital tools and technology satisfactorily. This draft plan breaks up digital inclusion into availability, access, and adoption. Availability refers to the availability of digital infrastructure, access refers to the ability of someone to access the infrastructure (devices, Wi-Fi-access points), and adoption is the ability of someone to adopt technologies.

VISION

We envision a dynamic and inclusive community in Chatham County where every resident can access reliable high-speed broadband, digital technology, and the skills needed to participate and fully achieve their goals in the digital age.
